Festival Zahrada 2010 (The Garden)

No plans this weekend?  Looking for something to do?  Well, if you like music then head on over to the 21st annual Festival Zahrada.

Festival Zahrada is one of the biggest festivals in the Czech Republic, and the biggest festival focused on the genres of world music...everything from folk, folk-rock, country, bluegrass, Celtic, jazz, blues, and gospel.

From July 2nd through the 5th, Festival Zahrada will take place in a beautiful chateau park in Nám욝 na Hané near Olomouc in central Moravia.  There are four main stages at the festival, but music can be heard throughout the park as well as in nearby towns.  Altogether, more than 150 bands and soloists are going to perform.  Not all of the musicians are from the Czech Republic...they're expecting musicians from Slovakia, Poland, Great Britain, Ireland, and beyond.

For those who wish to stay for the entire festival, food & accommodations can be found in Nám욝, or in the nearby town of Olomouc (for those of you without a car, a festival bus will transport you back to the festival).  For those of you driving, there's a large parking lot by the castle.  Camping directly at the heart of the festival is an option too (for those of you who like camping.  I particularly don't).

Tickets for the event cost 24 Euro (for the entire festival; camping is included in the price); or 10 Euro for a one-day pass.  They can be purchased at the festival or at advance-sale agencies.  Due to the size of the event location, there's no need to worry that it will be sold out.

I would go and visit the castle while there...it's not only breathtaking, but it also has an exhibit of old baby  prams and horse-drawn carriages, some of which are very ornate!
